Busy village, directly by the sea, 130 km north from New Quay, 136 km south-west from Liverpool, 193 km north-west from Birmingham. All shops, restaurants etc. in the resort. A harbour town situated on the Glaslyn Estuary, Porthmadog is rich in maritime history and has a good number of craft shops and restaurants.
Once a busy shipping port for the international slate trade, the town is an excellent base for touring the Snowdonia Mountains and Coast, a region offering historic villages, seaside resorts, castles, narrow gauge railways, museums and plenty of leisure facilities. Activities include cycling for all ages on designated scenic routes, picturesque walks, picnic areas, sailing on lakes, canoeing on rivers, as well as exploring the forests and waterfalls.
