Fort William is a very popular tourist centre, located in an area renowned for magnificent scenery on the shores of Loch Linnhe and surrounded by beautiful glens and forests.
It is an important centre for hillwalking and climbing due to its proximity to Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. It is also well known for its nearby famous Downhill Mountain Bike Track and its connection to the West Highland Way from Glasgow and the Great Glen Way. From the town pier there are several boat tours along Loch Linnhe providing amazing views of the Ben Nevis and also seal watching trips.
The town is centred on the High Street, pedestrianised in the 90s. There are a wide range of eating and drinking opportunities in Fort William, ranging from good fish and chips, to rather more upmarket establishments, including the prize winning Crannog Seafood Restaurant.
