Uzum is one of three flats at the Maison de Sovalye compound on the Island of Sovalye in the Bay of Fethiye on the southern coast of Turkey. It has, like its sister accommodations Zeytin and Yasemin, full dizzying seaview on a tiny, quiet and exclusive isle.
Uzum, meaning grape in Turkish, derives its name from vines around its serene seafront terrace. Inside, tastefully decorated with objects from the sea, you will have all modern conveniences such as air conditioning, fully functioning kitchen, bathroom, separate bedroom room for two with furniture from local wood and a living-dining area with a comfortable fisherman’s couch that open into another double bed.
The vine-covered terrace is at Uzum's private garden on the sea to gaze gaze at rare sunset view of uninhabited coastline and islands with pine and oleander trees sloping down to the sea.
Uzum is an oasis of nature, sea and history at its best for a holiday in peace and comfort.
At Uzum, you will be at the tiny and exclusive Sovalye Island located about 10 minutes from the coast by boat from the town of Fethiye. Sovalye, which mean Knight in English and derives its name from the French Chevalier, is entirely pedestrian, its paths lined with bougainvilleas, pine and citrus trees.
No roads, no traffic, the island is a dream for a quiet and pleasant holiday. Because of its tiny size, (website hidden) Map does not show it, but (website hidden) Earth does.
A walk from one end of the island to the other is 45 minutes or so, along ancient ruins, coves and sandy gravel. On its land and in its waters, you can see the remains of settlements dating back to the Roman period, old olive oil jars, amphorae, a Roman cistern. On the island, you can also see the remains of a Crusader castle, built by the Knights of St. John.
Uzum, being on the narrow point of the small island, offers its own two private breaches, the sunset one not sandy. Sovalye's best beach is a 10-minute walk where the island also offers its only restaurant and WiFi connection.
Transportation between the island and the town of Fethiye is through a sea-bus service four to five times a day during high season. Private sea taxi service is available 24 hours a day for the short 10-minutw ride. Shopping is done at Fethiye, whose history dates back to 2,000 BC and is also knoiwn as The Land of Lights (300 sunny days in a year and rare rainy days between April and November)
