Kep is a municipality in Cambodia with the status of province. Located a few kilometers from Ha Tien, the border with Vietnam, was once the most popular and most prestigious coastal city of Cambodia, but has been difficult days recently. From the early 1900s until the 1960s, Kep was a thriving resort town for the French and Cambodian elite. During the Khmer Rouge period, many houses and French colonial villas of Kep were destroyed. Many villas in Kep are abandoned, but some of the former splendor of the city is still apparent.
The ocean is lined with wide sidewalks and large statues. King Norodom Sihanouk currently built a home overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, but it has never been occupied and is now empty. beaches consist of mangrove and black rocks and a beach was fitted white sand as in Sihanoukville. Several islands lie off the coast, Koh Thonsáy ("Island of the Rabbits") is a short boat ride away. The city is renowned for its seafood - especially crabs that are eaten with green pepper Kampot.
