In the Castelo de Vide council, near Marvão e Portalegre; the Quinta da Bela Vista is, in every season, the guarantee of absolute restfulness and communion with nature, in a good country house. The history of the house itself is one with the story of local development, a titanic fight of men at odds with the wild and unfavorable nature.
It was built in the 30's by Eng. José Custódio Nunes, a pionneer of electricity in Portugal, following the sketch of the famous architect Cassiano Branco. It was in this house that the owner thought over the projects that led to the construction of the Póvoa e Meadas Dam, the first hidroelectric use of an energetic reservoir artificially formed known in Portugal. As a man in love with the culture of his homeland, Eng. José Custódio Nunes was able to show in Quinta da Bela Vista without ostentation, the noblest values about rural tradition.
