The House of the Shooting Star is a feast for connoisseurs of fine living. Domes and arches open onto lofty spaces with a cooling expanse of intricately decorated marble floors; Elegant white and cream shades are juxtaposed with dashing touches of contemporary art – all beautifully balanced with the very best comforts in mind.
The property is on three levels. A marble staircase leads to the first floor hallway. On the first floor there is an elegant Reading Room with fireplace and doors leading out onto the main veranda. Another door leads off the hallway into the main kitchen of the property which is very well equipped and with antique tiled floor. Through the arch in the hallway is a very spacious living room, elegantly and comfortably furnished with a formal dining area with chandelier and antique table and chairs for 10 guests. Doors lead out onto the main veranda with its huge, elegant arches and intricately patterned marble floor. The verandah has many areas for dining al fresco and with comfortable day beds and sofas for relaxing.
From the main hallway, the marble staircase continues up to the 2nd level where there are 2 fabulous bedrooms: The main master bedroom suite has double bed and en-suite bathroom with shower and WC. This bathroom also has the most fabulous, marble bathtub raised on a dais with spectacular views over the Bay of Hydra which can be enjoyed to the full whilst bathing. The master bedroom suite has doors leading out onto the large upper terrace shared with the 2nd double bedroom. The 2nd bedroom has a queen sized, antique brass bed with en-suite bathroom. Doors lead from this bedroom to the upper level veranda which runs the length of the house.
On the ground floor of the property is a very spacious and comfortable guest wing which is fully accessible from the main part of the house via the marble staircase but which is totally self-contained with its own kitchen, living room and dining facilities.
Hewn from the granite of Hydra's mountains, the guest wing’s living room is a cool oasis providing comfortable couches in the sitting area with an abundance of cushions making this an excellent spot for a siesta or for curling up with a good book. There is also a breakfast serving bar and dining area with traditional stone oven and a very well equipped kitchen. Off the living room is a well appointed guest bathroom with shower. An inner hallway has access to a bathroom with bath and shower as well as 2 spacious double/twin bedrooms. The guest wing is beautifully furnished throughout with stylishly chosen antique furniture, paintings, objets d’art and a large library of books.
The property is surrounded by an unusually large and beautifully planted garden on the lower terrace offering shade and respite from the mid-summer sun with plenty of places to relax with the private pool close by for a refreshing dip. The views over the amphitheatre of Hydra and across the bay to the island of Dokos are truly memorable.
Hydra harbour with its array of waterfront tavernas, cafes and shops is about a 15 minute walk away. The sparkling bays and coves of Hydra are one of the few places where you will see dolphin and porpoise regularly. The nearest beaches to the property are about a 15 min walk away. There are some wonderful sandy beaches on Dokos Island opposite, on the far side of Hydra and on the Peloponnese coast opposite - all easily accessible by water taxi from Hydra harbour.
House of the Shooting Star offers guests the possibility to enjoy Mediterranean island life at its best in elegant, comfortable and stylish surroundings. In all months other than July and August, it is possible for smaller parties to rent the lower part of the house only - The Small Shooting Star. In either case exclusive use of the swimming pool is included in the price.
