Helios House is charming, airy and colourful, ideal for up to four couples or for an extended family or large group of friends. It is located on one of Hydra's highest hillside streets above the town and bustling harbour lively with fishing boats and elegant yachts. The views from the property are spectacular – looking out over the whitewashed houses with their pastel-coloured shutters to the bay of Hydra, and beyond to the Saronic Gulf and the Peloponnese in the distance.Enclosed by stone walls for privacy, Helios House consists of three typical island style buildings with the swimming pool located in a central courtyard. There are multi-level terraces that form a Mediterranean garden full of the heady scents of orange, olive, fig, and a multitude of flowering plants. Grape-vines cover the many pergolas and provide shade from the summer sun whilst jasmine, plumbago and bougainvillea add splashes of colour to complete this sublime setting.
The first of the two main buildings contains a sitting room, dining room, well-equipped kitchen and a mezzanine study; in the second building there are four double bedrooms (two with double beds, and two with twin-beds). The house has three bathrooms, a telephone/fax for incoming calls only, WIFI internet, hairdryer, transformers for shavers, mosquito nets and ceiling fans over all beds, an interesting library of books, a CD player and iron and ironing board.Outside the building that contains the ‘living areas’, there is a wonderful terrace shaded by various pergolas. This terrace acts as a summer dining/living area. The terrace offers some of the best views on the island and one can digest a delicious meal whilst simply taking in the view. There is also an outdoor shower situated just off this terrace, useful after a refreshing dip. There are several other terraced areas surrounding Helios House, ideal for sunbathing, relaxing, eating breakfast or escaping in solitary bliss.
Whilst the stunning hillside location of Helios House gives the property fabulous views cooled by the summer breezes, guests should be aware that there are a number of steps to access the property so it is not necessarily suitable for those with mobility difficulties or for toddlers. This is a rare opportunity to experience the simple delights of a quintessentially Mediterranean house with the luxury of a good-sized swimming pool
