The log cabin of the crazy p ranch is located just 14 miles south of Buffalo, Wyoming and just a couple miles from the famous Crazy Woman Canyon. Buffalo is centrally located on highway 16 between the black hills of south dakota and yellowstone national park. Cody, Wyoming is just a three hour drive away, and Jackson, Wyoming is a six hour drive west. The town of Buffalo is in Johnson County, rich in history and scenery. It is a place that was occupied by sheep herders and cattle barons.
The 1892 Johnson County Cattle War was a famous rangeland dispute that took place in this area. Travel up route 16 and see the towering peaks of the Bighorn Mountains and hike the many trails of the 900,000 acre Big Horn National Forest and Cloud Peak Wilderness. It is an outdoorsman paradise for hunting, fishing, backpacking, picnicking, four wheeling, snowmobiling, down hill and cross country skiing, and sledding. A trail ride on horseback can be easily arranged.
During the Summer and Autumn months there are plenty of local activities including the Johnson County Fair and Rodeo, Big Horn Mountain Festival, Sheridan Wyo Rodeo, Longmire Days, Cowgirl Rodeo on Tuesday nights, Thursday nights bluegrass Jam session. The Jim Gatchell Memorial Musuem in Buffalo has one of the best collections of artifacts in the american west. History is rich in our area with the Wagon Box Fight site, Conner Battle Field, Fort Phil Kearny, Crazy Woman Battlefield, Fetterman Battlefield Site, and the Bozeman Trail, just to name a few. An hour and one half drive north is historic Garryowen Mmontana, where a visitor can see and tour the Custer Battlefield and musuem.
Just south of the crazy p ranch is Kaycee Wyoming which was the home of many outlaws and renegades. It is called 'hole in the wall' country, hideout of the legendary Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and the rest of the Hole in the Wall Gang. A day could include visiting the Outlaw Cave, the Indian Art Rock Caves, Kaycee's Hoofprints of the Past Musuem, and the Chris LeDoux Memorial Park with the life and one half broze sculpture of the legendary LeDoux, a country singer and world champion bareback bronc rider done by D. Michael Thomas, Buffalo's award winning artist. After a full day of adventures, sit on our front terrace and watch the sun set over the mountains. On cool nights you can enjoy smores with your family while listening to the occasional howl of a coyote.
Come walk down the canyon, or drive up for a picnic. Walk to the muddy guard reservoirs and fly fish in the afternoon, or swim the cool blue waters when the temperature warms up. There are also plenty of local streams such as the Powder River, Crazy Woman Creek, and the alpine lakes and streams of the Big Horn National Forest.
The Crazy P Ranch is also a game bird farm that release pheasants every year to populate the area and for hunters to enjoy during the season.
Our log cabin stays cool during the day and warm at night while the temperature changes within the season. Our kitchen is open to entertain with a bar for guests to sit and enjoy a cocktail. The stone fireplace sits right by the front terrace where guests can cozy up on the couch and shares stories about their day. There is so much to do in the town of Buffalo.
Enjoy the great restaurants, art galleries, play golf on its 18 hole par 71 course that is rated a 4-star course by Golf Digest. They have everything you need to play and beautiful mountain vistas as a backdrop. There is also Wyoming's largest free outdoor swimming pool which in the summer is enjoyed by all ages! Buffalo and its surrounding area is truely a western jem and the cabin at the Crazy P Ranch is a place to retreat from life's hectic pace. The moment you arrive and shut your car door, you will be taken by the solitude.
