The Space
The Location
Whether your stay is for business or pleasure, you will hopefully feel right at home in this private apartment tucked away in one of San Francisco's landmark Painted Ladies of Historic Postcard Row on Alamo Square. Walk across the street to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the city as seen in “Full House" and countless movies, especially beautiful at sunset.
Afterwards, walk to dinner to some of the best restaurants in the city in nearby Hayes Valley or Divisadero/NOPA or enjoy an evening at the Symphony, Opera, Fillmore Center, or Jazz Center.
The location is highly central, with excellent public transportation anywhere in the city a block away and with Uber/Lyft typically arriving at your doorstep in 2-3 minutes. It's a 15 minute drive to the Golden Gate Bridge or Downtown/Union Square. Golden Gate Park is 5 minutes away by car or a pleasant 30 minute stroll through the Panhandle park. And Japantown is just up a few blocks. There are also plenty of on-demand car rentals available across the street and around Alamo Park, so you can quickly escape to Napa and Sonoma for wine tasting. Several corporate tech shuttle buses (G, F, A) stop close by.
If we are home, we're happy to show you the upstairs main house. Built in 1892, it features original moulding, hybrid gas/electric chandeliers, exquisite wainscoting, and original mahogany staircase. It's a piece of San Francisco history painstakingly restored and we'd love to share it with you.
The Place
Access this private one-bedroom apartment through its own side entrance. Walk into the expansive living room with a full window wall that looks out to a landscaped patio and San Francisco City Hall. The living room has a pull out sofa bed (full size) where you can watch a 52" flat screen TV with Comcast's premium package. Stream a movie on the high speed WiFi internet and connect your laptop to the TV with included HDMI and Mac adapters. Listen to your favorite music from your smartphone via Bluetooth on the premium sound system.
The living room opens into the gourmet kitchen and dining area, where you can enjoy a quiet dinner at home picked up or delivered from numerous neighborhood restaurants. Or you can join the locals and head over to Bi-Rite or Falletti's, or pick up fresh produce at the Sunday farmers market a block away, and cook a gourmet meal in the fully-equipped kitchen for the quintessential San Francisco “foodie" experience. Everything you need to cook with from making pancakes, soups, salads, pasta sauces to warming a meal is here, with room to spread out on quartz countertops and a dining table that can seat 8. The ultra-quiet dishwasher makes cleaning up quick and easy.
At night, fall into a restful sleep on the luxurious Tempur-Pedic king bed in the quiet bedroom with blackout shades. Two additional guests can enjoy the full sized pull-out sofa bed with a high-quality mattress. One additional guest can enjoy a foldout twin bed with high-quality memory foam mattress. Unpack your bags into the large double door closet with organizer shelves and drawers to feel like you are at home. After a busy day in the city, take a shower using the luxurious DXV shower head and hand washer, or soak in the tub. The bath is beautifully decorated in Carrera marble tile, quartz countertop and glass shower doors. Use the commercial-sized Maytag washer and dryer with steam refresh cycle or hand held steamer to refresh your business or cocktail clothes.
The apartment is on the ground floor with its own private access. You may occasionally hear us playing the piano upstairs during the day or early evening. We tend to take our shoes off in the house, so you shouldn't hear us moving around much.
Alamo Square/Hayes Valley
There is plenty to see and do right in the area! Start the day off with a stroll in the gorgeous park across the street that provides stunning views of the city. Jog along the panhandle into Golden Gate Park all the way to the ocean. Head over to The Mill for the best coffee and fresh baked bread in the city. Spend the day checking out the shops, museums and galleries in walking distance. When it comes time for dinner, you can't go wrong at the many restaurants on Divisadero or in Hayes Valley. Cap off the night with a cocktail at Maven or a pitcher of Sangria at Fly Bar.
Where can I park?
Since we are so centrally located in San Francisco, with easy Uber/Lyft availability or public transport at the corner, we recommend you do not bring a car. If you do, there is street parking with a two-hour limit during the day from 9am-8pm Monday-Friday on all streets. This means that if you are in a spot at 6pm, you can stay there until 11am the next morning. There is usually parking available on Grove Street and occasionally right across the street from the house on Steiner. Weekends are definitely busier as the 2 hour maximum does not apply.
Under special circumstances, especially if someone is arriving late, they can arrange to park in front of our driveway. We can't guarantee that there will be enough room but we can try to block out a space.
Other Parking Options:
1) DMV Parking Lot. Mon-Fri 5pm-7am, Sat-Sun 24 hours. Can also park during the day. $15 for overnight. Entrance at 351 Broderick Street, between Oak and Fell. This is an 11 minute walk.
2) Fillmore Heritage Center. 6am-2am. $12 overnight. 1466 Eddy Street between Webster and Fillmore. Recommend walking back on Steiner. 8 minute walk.
3) The Fillmore Center. 1475 Fillmore Street. Entrance on Eddy between Fillmore and Steiner and on Fillmore between Eddy and Ellis. Open 24 hours. 10 minute walk.
Other Things to Note
Absolutely no smoking inside or outside on the premises. Our home has electronic locks located at the front gate and entrance door. Before and during your stay, you will have access to our House Manual that contains check-in instructions, access instructions, amenity details, FAQs, and a reporting tool for maintenance requests. The codes needed to enter the property and House Manual are sent to you 48 hours prior to check-in.
Please remember that you will be staying in a home, not a hotel. Therefore, we ask that you treat our space with the same respect you would show your own. We travel often and have a professional concierge team managing guest services for our home while we are away. The concierge will be available for assistance via email and phone/text 24/7.
Also, please be aware that a neighboring house is undergoing construction 7:30am-4pm Monday-Friday and some Saturdays. The noise has not bothered us living upstairs in the main Painted Lady. The apartment unit is very quiet with double-paned, insulated windows and the bedroom is in the center of the house on the other side from the construction. That said, the project may cause noise inside the apartment beyond our control during these hours.
