The steep walk, narrow alley and traditional stone exterior give no clue to what lies inside this village house. But step through glass doors and you're whisked into rooms of bold design and modern art. There's another surprise; tucked behind the house (actually three, joined together) is a garden of cascading terraces with stunning rooftop and mountain views, and a dreamy pool. Ground-floor breakfast and sitting areas with their cool styling give a hint to the bedrooms, each of which has a design theme: perhaps Philippe Starck or Le Corbusier. Pale walls and tiled floors are a backdrop to the minimalist furnishings and vibrant artwork. Light floods through windows; bathrooms are stylishly simple. Choose a garden room for a private patio; the sprawling penthouse for the finest views. Housekeeper Anna serves a generous Spanish breakfast and summertime light lunches on the shady top terrace with its Hollywood-white sofas and bright cushions. Wander pretty Fornalutx, hike the Tramuntana mountains, explore ancient Sóller. Or find a secret spot amongst the garden's palms, magnolias and exotic shrubs, and drink in the peace.
